good on my own

about

a bubblegum pop track about from the vault as I'm trying to purge my hard drive. This one is about not settling for less than you deserve and not putting up with BULLSHIT! Especially my trans girls in the audience: even in a world that denigrates you, DEMAND that people treat you right. You're always better off on your own than being together with someone treating you poorly. hope yall enjoy it!

lyrics

I always try hard to reach you
But the world it has a leash wrapped around you tightly
I try to give you all the space you need to name your feelings
But you’re only ever itching to fight me

& I know I’m a scapegoat
You’re only lashing out at me because the world ain’t fair
& Your love & hate for me fluctuate
When all I’ve ever been was someone who cared

But I can’t believe what you say to me
When we’re on the street, you act differently
& It cuts me deep to admit defeat
But I don’t think I can put it more plainly

If there’s something that you want
You’re gonna have to say it
It’s right in front of you
But you never try to claim it
If you never share your feelings
And you’re always hesitating
There’s some lessons here that you’re gonna learn

Yeah ’Im not gonna stand and wait
I’ve not got all day
I’m not gonna limit myself
To the things they say
I’m not made of plastic baby
You won’t throw me away

I’m way too good to waste

You’re gonna treat me with respect like I deserve and
You’ll never underestimate my worth
‘Cause even in a world that denigrates me
You’re gonna have to show me I mean something to you

Or I’m just gonna leave you
Cause I’m good on my own
Yeah I’m just gonna leave you
Cause I’m good on my own
Yeah I’m good on my own

& it sucks you can’t see it
How you’re holding yourself back from all of your potential
& the thing that sucks most is that all of this
Is over something so inconsequential

& I know your pain, yeah I know it well
But it’s no excuse to put me through hell
As for your disdain for me, learn to love yourself
‘Cause I know I can put it more plainly

If there’s something that you want
You’re gonna have to say it
It’s right in front of you
But you never try to claim it
If you never share your feelings
And you’re always hesitating
There’s some lessons here that you’re gonna learn

Yeah I’m not gonna stand and wait
I’ve not got all day
I’m not gonna limit myself
To the things they say
I’m not made of plastic baby
You won’t throw me away

I’m way too good to waste

You’re gonna treat me with respect like I deserve and
You’ll never underestimate my worth and
Even in a world that denigrates me
You’re gonna have to show me I mean something to you

Or I’m just gonna leave you
Cause I’m good on my own
Yeah I’m just gonna leave you
Cause I’m good on my own
Yeah I’m good on my own

And you think that you’re hard
But no
That’s just your facade
And I wonder what
Would happen if you’d just let your soft side out for a minute
Oh my god
You tremble at the thought
It’s something that you’re not
You swear
But I know you better than that
I hope you know
I’d love you as you are
I’d love you as you are
I’d love you as you are
But this ain’t who you are
You’re gonna have to do better
You’re gonna have to do better
You’re gonna have to do better
Or I’m just gonna leave you
Cause I’m good on my own
