This track is about every trans person's path being different. I find myself when I have a friend who comes out as trans, especially if they are MTF or MTX, that I feel this intense desire to spare them a lot of the pain that I've felt along my transition. I want to give them advice and encourage them about things to do to avoid the hard feelings I have. But the problem is that every transition is different, and I can find myself making a lot of incorrect assumptions about other people's goals and situations because I equate their experience with my pain. I have this healing fantasy that's more rooted in my pain than their experience. So I'm not helpful in those cases. This song is about telling myself (and other trans people) that our paths are our own. There's no way to remove risk of being hurt along the way. The best we can do is trust our intuitions, make our best choices, and have people around us who can support us whatever the outcome.
